Take THAT short skirts!

So I have a nice sized wardrobe.

It's treated me well over the last few years.

Each item was bought with purpose and reason.

I have pieces that cost $1.00 up to $200.00.

All of which were bought pre-wedding, of course. Marriage doesn't permit such a luxurious lifestyle yet.

The only problem with pre-wedding items... is that a LOT of them are unwearable after. I never really wore excessively short skirts or tank tops or (gasp) a belly shirt...hahah... but VERY SURPRISINGLY a lot of my skirts which I would have deemed "modest" before, are infact, UNWEARABLE! I've been frustrated about this literally since the day after we got married. I mean most of my skirts are actually to the top of my kneecap. But when I walk, apparently they get a little shorter. Or if I lean over even a LITTLE, it doesn't work out very well... So besides the two Maxi dresses i have and 2 pencil skirts (which luckily don't have slits in them) I've been looking like a frumpy 12 year old going to church, wearing hand-me-down skirts i took from Mom's closet (don't worry mom. It's just a Khaki skirt that's a size 4 and a plaid skirt that came from circa 1992)....And, as previously mentioned, being a newlywed, it's just not smart to buy clothes when we have bills to pay and food to buy.

Yesterday, I took charge.

I have a few amazing skirts from Banana Republic and Anthropologie... a few stores which are a little pricier than most - but to me are worth it because they last longer (i still have a few banana republic shirts from high school that are classic AND in good shape!) When I cleaned out my closet and gave my salvageable clothing to friends and charity, I kept the pieces I couldn't bear to part with. Not that I had plans for them, I just wasn't ready to watch money float away so easily.

I have a million and one projects to do around the house, let's get that straight, but I wanted to wear a skirt to work the next day. A skirt I hadn't worn for a while. I busted out this navy blue silk/cotton pencil skirt with a little pleating and POCKETS (I loooove a dress/skirt with pockets. obsesssed).
The skirt is actually quite similar to this one.

The fabric is so soft yet structured. It is also about 2 inches above my kneecap. I got out the seam ripper and took out the seam. Guess what? there was about THREE inches of excess fabric!!!! Oh, the delight. I cannot express how happy I was to discover so much fabric and the fact that i could no doubt, wear it tomorrow without worrying about a wardrobe malfunction.

I didn't take a picture of it, I've been too busy - maybe soon. haha i wouldn't hold your breath. Maybe today after work ill get lance to take a picture of me IN it (and then you can maybe see Office Butt in action too! OOO a double-whammy)

The happiness didn't start there. I took out my anthropolgie dress i wore for a friends wedding (and only got to wear once, dangit. i got engaged right after she got married. hahah). and guess what, THE SAME THING HAPPENED! SO much fabric in the hem! I tried with another skirt, but it had about half an inch of fabric in the hem - but that's okay. I have so much excess fabric i can sew onto the bottom.... I am determined to start looking cute at church on Sunday. I feel like I've been so disrespectful looking so disheveled each week.

Stay tuned and I will post final products.
