Projects + Crafty men = extreme makeover: home edition!

SOOO Little Lancey is quite the ambitious one. He and my dad have been talking about projects to do around our house here in Provo since we were first engaged. I didn't think we would actually get everything done they were talking about, mostly because they were such LARGE ideas.... but OH ye of little faith.... I stand corrected!

Dad decided to get up to Utah to help Lance do projects before it got too cold to accomplish. It's been really great having him here! He's my first official house guest, and it's fun for me to get some use out of my cute little guest room (which is still doubling as a storage unit).

Our house was built circa 1970, I'm pretty sure, so there are a lot of interesting little features someone somewhere thought was a brilliant idea, such as: the whole split-level home thing. I don't think i will ever understand that. Who thought that would be cool? like "hey, when i walk into a house, I really think it'd be neat to have to make a decision whether or not you'd like to go UP or DOWN. no walking forward. That makes too much sense." hahah OR the fact that the deck, while it very nicely wrapped around the house, someone thought it was brilliant to extend it only about 3 feet. so strange. The BEST one, by far, is our guest bathroom, which is accessible via hallway, and essentially is the only bathroom anyone really uses (minus lance and me). You would think it would have a normal door, yes? NO. It's the kind of door that recesses sideways into the door frame. Okay, sounds cool, maybe convenient and flush; most likely it was the first few years it was used. HOWEVER. The door does not shut completely. There is always about an inch gap between the door and the frame. SO, dad, being the private person he is, decided the next day it was the very first thing to go....
There are a lot of other nuances that are funny and i dont get, but that's okay. that's what SuperDad is for, right?

YESS!! A BATHROOM DOOR! A REAL BATHROOM DOOR! Never in my unmarried life did i ever expect to be so completely thrilled and as excited as a little diddit on christmas day to have a legit bathroom door. That was day/morning 1.

While dad was doing that, Lance was working on installing the french doors. What had happened was back in Lance's bachelor days, the i think second night ever he spent in his new house (this house we now live in) he had some girls over, and one of them was riding his indo board

(i doubt she was wearing heels, because he would have probably married her!)

and slipped... and the indoboard shot right through one of the four large livingroom windows. To patch the hole, as bachelor boys might, they ripped up a large piece of cardboard and taped it over the hole. The glass still lying outside the window. To a HUGE surprise, it made the entire house freezing cold in the winter. So Lance, now the married man he is, took charge, found some cheap french doors, and installed it with the pops here.

SOOO those are the finished products! it may not look like much to the eye, but seriously it makes a HUGE difference in the house! Dad just finished extending the deck, and those pictures will come in my next post, along with the new wall painting.

Heather was here too, hangin out with us.

this was my first big family dinner around the table!

Yay for handy husbands! I love when Joseph gets an idea in his head and he just does it. It's a turn on...is that weird? Yeah, he's your cousin...that's weird. :)

Ya'lls house looks fun! Can't wait for more pictures.

And, on another note, I made the honey wheat bread you blogged about - delicious! However, I could have also used it as a weapon had we been robbed. That thing was HEAVY! I definitely need to find a less dense recipe to make for more normal things like sandwiches.
