So this post is slightly out of chronological order, in terms of order of events, but that's okay.
I decided I wanted to be slightly more domestic. Since my cooking isn't as good as i'd like it to be, I figured i could do something that is pretty impossible to screw up, like making bread - in a breadmaker. This is basically fool-proof, right?
Lance and I pooled together some of our Target giftcards from the wedding (ahhh i love those things) to buy a beginner's edition of a breadmaker. (I got Lance on board with this purchase because I convinced him i could make bread with 8 or less ingredients that he recognized and approved of, which is something we both do when we buy groceries - make sure we know what the ingredients are, and if we dont, we google them really quick and understand what that ingredient means. You'd be surprised what things they put in your food! One time, one of the ingredients was the same ingredient they use on roads to de-ice them!)
SO i was slightly over-anxious, and decided I wanted to start out making a multi-grain bread for my first loaf.
drumrolllll please
THIS is how it turned out. UMMM PRETTY SURE that's not normal, and that's not how it's supposed to look. So much for my domestic-ness, yes? hahaha.
It actually tasted pretty okay. I liked it because it was really salty and nutty (and reallllly dense) but lance was NOT too amused. Virg tried it and she said it was good too. so who knows.
I used it on my breakfast the next morning and it actually went nicely with these little eggys.
i HAVE however, found a really good recipe that i tried right after my failure, and i've done it at LEAST 6 times, and it's turned out perfect and heavenly every time. I'll just pat myself on the back for this victory. Here's the recipe if youd like to try it on your bread machine.
100% Whole Wheat Honey Bread (2 lb recipe)
Water - 1 1/4 C + 2 TBL
Oil - 3 TBL
Honey - 1/4 C
Salt - 2 tsp
Dry Milk - 3 TBL
Whole Wheat Flour - 4 1/3 C
Dry Yeast - 2 1/2 tsp
Put these ingredients in in that order. I usually put a little indention in the wheat right in the center where the yeast can hang out.
This bread is so yummy and healthy. Also very dense, so we slice it super thin, and it lasts a relatively long time. AND my husband thinks im really cool and domestic because I made HOMEMADE BREAD! ooooo! "yes it was really hard, Honey" i tell lance, " but I do it for you because I love you and I support being healthy." hahah yep, its true.
