I Am Thankful...#1

I am a packrat. A few people will attest to that statement. I've been working on chilling out in that aspect, and I've gotten significantly better about it. HOWEVER all you haters out there, being a packrat has work toward my advantage from time to time, as I am about to prove to you.

I have several small, journal-sized, bound books to which I have for the purpose of quotes, song lyrics, and just profound thoughts I steal from other people, to be written down and saved for who knows what. This all started when I was pretty young, when my first boyfriend's mom gave me a great idea. She told me about a book she had read written by a pastor who had a philosophical degree, and he brought up the plan of having a "thankful journal", one which was to be written in each day, 5 things in your life you are thankful/grateful for and why. He claimed that when your verbally express your gratitude for the blessings in your life, it makes you happier and keeps you focused on the things that truly matter. I took on this challenge and actually did this for about 6 months, and I remember really enjoying expressing my love for the people and things that I was thankful for. (Which, by the way, was REALLY funny and entertaining to look back at and read, and remembering what was important to my younger teenager mind.)

SO, in light of such an idea, I am going to attempt with each blog post, to pick one someone/something I am thankful for... Instead of picking 5 things to write about, I plan on picking 1 thing with 5 reasons why it's important to me... i encourage you to challenge yourself either on your blog or in a journal to try and do this daily and see how it changes you.

SOOOO TODAY I pick

KATHERINE suzanne Young to express my gratitude for.

1. She has always made me laugh so so so hard. Besides making life a little more jolly, Katherine's humor has helped me in tough situations. She taught me that if you don't laugh at what bad thing is happening, you'll cry... Because of this, I always find something funny in just about anything. It's been one of the most progressive things that has ever happened to me.

2. Katherine has always been a constant in my life. So many people seem to come and go, but we have been close since we were little tykes (the picture below, i think we're about 6 years old). Ever since we were 11, when I first moved to Denton first ward, and Heather Stocker's mom forced heather and katherine to invite me over for a sleep over because they felt sorry for me (probably because i wore the same purple silk pearl snap shirt with the white and purple matching ankle length skirt), we've been inseparable. She's never let me down, and I can count on one hand the times I have ever actually been mad at her. She's been the best kind of person to have in my life, and I am SO grateful for that.

3. Everyone can see how gorgeous Katherine is... like break your neck beautiful. But I have never once seen her take advantage of that. It's almost like she isnt aware of her super model status. To me this shows how beautiful her insides really are.

4. One of my favorite things about Katherine is her quick wit. Wit not only showcases a persons humor but also their intelligence level.

5. One of the best parts about our relationship is how we've always acted as an old married couple. We've always been able to finish each other's sentences. BJ used to get so annoyed with us because we would just LOOK at each other from across the room and we'd start laughing, or nod or use something to signify we knew what each other were thinking. We're almost always on the same brain frequency, and I love that! I love YOU katherine!
