What's New...

I am so unbelievably excited to write this post. As most of you know, Lance served his mission in the Belgium, Brussels, Netherlands, Northern France mission. He spent a lot of his time in Liege and Brussels and a little time in Northern France. He speaks French beautifully and his native friend told me once that Lance sounds like he is also a Native Frenchman.

I've never really had a drive to go to Europe until I met Lance. He showed me all the amazing pictures he took on the mission, told me stories and explained the fashion and architecture that he was surrounded by. I fell in love with the place, story after story.

Last year Lance applied for an internship in Belgium but for one reason or another he was denied but told to apply the next year. A few more he reapplied, and we crossed our fingers that the odds would be in our favor.


Fast forward a month or so and (after stalking Stacy more than Im sure she wanted) Lance found out on Monday that WE GOT THE INTERNSHIP! We leave September of next year and it's a 3 month long journey. Hopefully I will also be able to work and use my English degree while I'm there... but I cannot tell you how excited I am. It really is going to be so amazing! Lance told me that during the weekends we can use the money we earned that week to go to Venice, Paris, the French Countryside, and basically any where we can think of to sight see!

I'm going to audit French 1 and 2 the next two semesters at UVU to have some kind of base of the language before I immerse myself in the Belgium culture... AHH! I can't wait to buy amazing, rich, luxurious Belgium fabrics, take in the fashion, get new ideas, and just live life there.

A few quick facts:

The Belgium Flag: three equal vertical bands of black (hoist side), yellow, and red; the vertical design was based on the flag of France; the colors are those of the arms of the duchy of Brabant (yellow lion with red claws and tongue on a black field)

History: Belgium became independent from the Netherlands in 1830; it was occupied by the Germans during WW1 and 2. The country prospered in the past half century as a modern, technologically advance European state and member of NATO and the EU.... It is located in Western Europe, bordering the North Sea between France and the Netherlands. The country is about the same size of Maryland. The terrain consists of flat coastal plains in nortwest, central rolling hills, rugger mountains of Ardennes Forest in southeast.
